Amy Scalia is Fashion 4 Paws!
When you think of Cincinnati fashion, likely the name Cincy Chic rings a bell. The online publication for area women is synonymous with fashion, fitness, fun and pretty much anything else a local woman could ask for.
So, it seemed only fair that for our very first Fashion 4 Paws segment, we tip our hats to the woman behind Cincy Chic and Star 64 host, Amy Scalia. She and her husband, Pete, are quickly building a media empire throughout the city, all the while sharing their successes with their Hungarian Vizsla, Dino.
Amy had grown up with dogs for most of her life, so when the time came that she and Pete wanted to add a dog to their family, she wanted to make sure it was a perfect fit for their personalities and busy schedules. After a few online personality test comparisons and a lot of breed research, they settled on the Hungarian Vizsla, a relatively rare, short coated breed famed for not not smelling of ‘dog.’
When we met up with Amy and Dino for our Saturday morning photo shoot,
we could instantly tell why they were in love with that dog. Dino has a striking appearance that’s as sleek and as strong looking as his namesake, the Ferrari Dino. In fact, even as we strolled the riverwalk in Covington for this interview, several people stopped us to ask what kind of dog he was and even what dog shows he has been in.
While he hasn’t been in any shows yet, the three-year-old Vizsla’s favorite pastimes pursue a simpler route which includes playing with the neighbor’s basset hound every morning, swimming and ducking (which Amy and Pete are currently in the process of teaching). Unlike some breeds, Dino needed very little training when it came to learning how to swim. As a water dog, he took to swimming like a natural, so when they’re able to sneak away, they’ll visit Amy’s family home in Georgetown, Ohio where Dino is free to swim and hunt to his heart’s content.
Amy credits Dino’s presence to the Scalia household as an opportunity for to practice making decisions as a couple before they decide to have kids. And although he looks tough, Dino also has a softer side. He can sense if Amy or her husband aren’t feeling well, and will be protective, cuddly and near. Could there be a second Vizsla in Amy’s future? That might have to wait a bit, but in the meantime the Fort Thomas couple is enjoying all the energy and love that Dino has to offer.
Join Amy and the PetLuxe “Puparazzi” at theCincy Chic pet fashion show Friday, September 23rd from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lexus Rivercenter in Covington.

Each month we will profile one Cincinnati celebrity or public figure who is also a pet owner. Interviews will include a photo shoot around the city.
